31 animals rescued. 14 dogs now in emergency veterinary care in Seoul. Here’s what happened.
This past weekend, Korean K9 Rescue’s Korea team responded to one of the most difficult rescues in our recent history.
An informant reached out with information about animals living in severe conditions at an illegal puppy mill in Pocheon, South Korea. The property was operating as an unlicensed breeding facility in an area where dog breeding was not permitted. The situation had already been reported to police. No action was taken.
Our team went anyway.

What Our Team Found
When they arrived at the site, the conditions were worse than described. Dogs had been kept outdoors in filthy wire cages, exposed to scorching summer heat, with no shelter and no adequate care. Many showed signs of severe neglect, including extreme matting, malnourishment, and untreated medical conditions. Eight cats were also found living on the property in similar conditions.
In total, 31 dogs and 8 cats were rescued from the site alongside our rescue partners. Korean K9 Rescue took 14 dogs directly into our care.
Where They Are Now
All 14 dogs have been transported to an emergency veterinary hospital in Seoul, where they are receiving immediate medical attention. Each dog requires comprehensive veterinary exams, diagnostic testing, treatment for infections and other conditions, proper nutrition, and ongoing rehabilitation. Emergency veterinary care for each dog runs approximately $750 — a total of $10,500 to give all 14 of them a real chance at recovery.
This rescue came on top of an already demanding year for our veterinary budget. But these dogs made it out, and they deserve to make it through.
