Patreon FAQ

new patreon benefit!

Have you ever wished you could foster and maybe even adopt one of those beautiful pups you see via Patreon?

*Join Our Patreon*

Become a part of our mission at Korean K9 Rescue by joining our Patreon community! We offer three membership tiers to support our mission: Dae ($25), Eun ($50), and Byeol ($100). Regardless of the tier you choose, every member gets full access to our exclusive content and the opportunity to participate in our Patreon Foster-to-Adopt program, subject to our application process. Your support through Patreon plays a crucial role in our efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for dogs in South Korea. Join us today and be a part of this life-changing journey.

How does it work? If you’re a Patreon member and a pre-approved applicant:

1. Keep an eye out on Patreon for the incoming dogs, and reach out to us at applications@koreank9rescue.org ASAP if you would like to foster to adopt one of them.

2. One of our foster coordinators will be in touch with materials to review and sign. You will also receive a list of supplies and a preparation to-do list to dog-proof your home before the dog’s arrival. Please check our Foster FAQ to learn more about fostering with KK9R.

3. You will pick the dog up the afternoon of the day it arrives, either from our office in Astoria, NY or from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). You will also adhere to all foster program requirements while the dog is in your care.

4. You will have a maximum of 7 days to let our adoption team know if you would like to foster-fail and adopt that dog! During the first 7 days, we won’t post the dog to our adoptable dog’s page on the website, but after this time, the dog will be adoptable, and we will consider applications to find it a forever home.

5. If you choose not to adopt, we ask that you please commit to fostering the dog for at least 21 days (3 weeks) or until we can find it a forever home. This ensures that the dog has stability and is not overwhelmed with moving around so much after a long journey from Korea. You will need to bring the dogs to and from adoption events and/or meetups with potential adopters after the initial 7-day trial period, should you choose not to adopt within that time frame. You are welcome to foster another incoming dog again once that dog is adopted!

6. If you’ve decided to adopt, be prepared to finalize the adoption within 24 hours. Review our Adoption Procedures for more information about adopter requirements and costs.

7. Join our KK9R Alumni community!

Want to know more about how to be a pre-approved applicant? Visit our Adoption Procedures for information and then apply to adopt! One of our adoption coordinators will contact you regarding the next steps in the screening process.

OUR patreon FAQ

What’s the difference between this and the Foster-to-Adopt program?

Our Foster-to-Adopt VIP program is only for select dogs, per our website, who need a little extra time and stability to acclimate.

Our Patreon members who are also pre-approved applicants get the added benefit of fostering an incoming dog of their choice with the option to foster-fail within the first 7 days. (Additionally, our Patreon members get exclusive videos/photos of our rescue dogs at our Bundang, Korea facility and early preview access to photos/videos of adoptable dogs that are scheduled to arrive in NYC.)

Pre-approved applicants, not Patreon members, are only eligible to adopt the available dogs on our website. Fosters who are part of the regular foster program are not eligible to choose which dogs to foster.

What if I’m a pre-approved applicant but not a Patreon member?

If you are not a Patreon member, you are still eligible to adopt the available dogs on our Adoptable Dogs page! Please immediately reach out to applications@koreank9rescue.org if you are interested in adopting one of those dogs.

You can also sign up for Patreon at any time! All of our Patreon membership tiers offer this benefit.

What if I’m already a foster? Can I choose which dog to foster?

No – due to the volume of dogs waiting to come to NY for adoption and the critical need for foster homes, regular foster placements are assigned based on the dog’s needs. Fosters can foster-fail and adopt the dog given to them if it’s a good fit! Please review our Foster FAQ for more information.

What should I do if I live in the Los Angeles, CA area and want to adopt a dog through Korean K9 Rescue Patreon?

If you’re in the Los Angeles area and interested in adopting a dog from us listed on our Patreon, please be prepared to pick up the dog directly from LAX on the day and time the flight arrives, as arranged with the flight volunteer. It’s important to note that we currently don’t have a large foster network in LA. If, for any reason, you decide not to proceed with the adoption within seven days, we kindly request that you foster the dog until we find another loving forever family for them.

How much can you tell me about the dogs in advance? Are they potty/house trained?

Please keep in mind that we do not know these dogs’ housebreaking/potty status or complete personality information. They are also NOT hypoallergenic. These dogs stay at our rehabilitation facility in Bundang, Korea with 125 other dogs in our care. A big part of fostering is helping these dogs adjust to living in a house with humans. Please prepare yourself for challenges such as potty accidents or barking/whining as the dogs learn how to coexist with humans and learn what is expected of them. Our team is always here to guide you during your initial trial period to help you and your dog succeed together.

What if I can’t decide in 7 days if the dog is right for me and needs more time?

After the first 7 days, we will make the dog available for adoption and consider all applications to find its perfect forever home speedily. We have hundreds of waiting dogs in need of homes, and the sooner we find each dog a match that suits its needs, the more dogs we can save. We cannot hold onto dogs or delay adoptions, and if a match is found, the adoption will be finalized same-day at events or within 24 hours midweek.

I thought I wanted this dog, but I see another incoming dog on Patreon I want to foster instead. Can I switch foster dogs?

Due to the logistics of intakes and the need for more foster homes, we ask that you commit to fostering the current dog for at least 3 weeks or until the dog is adopted. It is also in the dog’s best interests to remain in a stable environment rather than going between multiple foster homes. We ask that you respect this commitment. After your initial commitment, you are welcome to reach out to foster another one of your choice.

What if I was pre-approved a while ago and have just now become a Patreon member?

Please reach out to us immediately at applications@koreank9rescue.org so we can review your file and get in touch with the next steps. While our pre-approvals are valid for 30 days, we can extend this case by case. You must resubmit an application if you originally applied 3+ months ago. We will be in touch for a brief follow-up call to review any changes in our procedures or requirements since your last application!

What if I’m out of radius or can’t travel into NYC to pick up the dogs or bring them to adoption events?

Since we are not able to provide transport services, you must be willing and able to drive into NYC (or arrange for Uber/Lyft/taxi as appropriate) to pick up the dog from our office in Astoria, NY. If you choose not to finalize that dog’s adoption, you must be willing and able to drive the dog to and from adoption events (or arrange for Uber/Lyft/taxi as appropriate) for the best chance of finding their forever home. We trust you to decide how much time and distance makes sense for you personally!

KK9R is not responsible for costs of transportation and it is understood by fosters and potential adopters that these are volunteer expenses.
